WorldSkills is a non-profit organization that promotes vocational education and training, and helps develop skilled professionals. It hosts the "Skills Olympics", a global competition held every two years in a different country. The competition brings together young people from around the world to compete in more than 50 different vocational skills categories, such as car painting, welding, robotics, web design, hairdressing, and cooking.

In 2022, WorldSkills organized a special edition of its competition, which served as the official replacement for WorldSkills Shanghai 2022. The latter had to be canceled due to the pandemic. The special edition involved 29 events in 26 cities across 15 different countries and regions.

Role: animation & broadcast package
Broadcast package
I created Motion Graphics templates (.mogrt) in Adobe After Effects. These templates can be imported into Adobe Premiere Pro and modified directly by the editor. This included lower thirds, intro and outro cards, and typography animations.
I used expressions to optimize the Motion Graphics templates (.mogrt). For example, to make an element appear and disappear using a checkbox.

The expression used:

var h = effect ("Checkbox Control") ("Checkbox");
if (h ==1) {100} else (0);
Video Loop
Each event had partners, and we made them visible through videos played in a loop on large screens.

This involved more than twenty video loops that needed to be quickly updated with new logos. I created the initial project in Adobe After Effects and optimized it using the Responsive Design - Time tool and expressions.
I used an expression to automate a left-to-right movement, making it dependent on the layer's duration in my composition. This allowed me to optimize my workflow by eliminating the need for keyframes.
Tip!
Pre-render elements within the composition, such as the animated background. This will speed up your final rendering time.
Animation
I used Adobe Animate to add graphic elements to the promotional video. One of the crucial visual elements of the event's artistic direction was yellow lines surrounding people.

I extracted these lines from a PDF flyer and imported them as a brush in Adobe Animate. The idea was to make these lines appear as a drawing, following the camera's movements. Instead of using Adobe After Effects with its tracking tools, I preferred to work frame by frame.
